On 22nd July 2009 the world will witness the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, and will not be surpassed in duration until June 13, 2132.
At Oriental Travel, we have put together a special departure tour to celebrate this momentous event.
Exclusive Private Viewing Location - away from other eclipse tour groups!
With such a big event that likely to attract tens of thousands of tourists into the area, the last thing you want is having to squeeze in the crowds for some breathing space! Here at Oriental Travel we have carefully selected and being the only eclipse tour company to have secured a private viewing site, based on the field studies by our local scientific scholar and research from both the NASA & China's Central Astronomy Department. Our private location - exclusive to Oriental's guests - is situated in a little town sandwiched between Shanghai and Hangzhou. Our location is well positioned in the path of totality and ensures the total eclipse can be viewed in a peaceful environment, where there will be minimal obstruction caused by tall buildings, artifical light, air pollution or other tourists. You will view the eclipse in comfort with refreshments & drinks served on our private site.

Our location is also close to the lower stream of the Qiantang River, renowned for having the worlds largest tidal bore. The tidal bore is a rare phenomenon found on only a few of the world's great waterways and is a wonder that has never been truly understood. The monthly tidal movements is predicted to be at their most extreme on the Eclipse day of the month, so you will have the chance of witnessing two stunning natural phenomena in one fantastic tour - again on our private viewing location on the banks of Qiantang River!
Astronomy Experts, Interesting Lectures & Eclipse Video Record
We are delighted to be joined by two experts Dr Alastair Gunn and Mr Robin Scagell who will present an interesting lecture and accompany the groups on the eclipse day. For safety viewing each of our members would be supplied with a pair of CE approved eclipse glasses. We know that our clients would appreciate being able to put their viewing glasses down for a while so there will be a digital projector screen set up on our private site where you will be able to see the event close-up while having a drink! The entire eclipse event will be recorded in a VCD (* when weather condition allows), where we will distribute it as a complimentary gift to all those who join our groups.
